Job Mentoring

This eight week service is for internationally trained professional and skilled immigrants; through this program they will be able to learn various aspects of their chosen fields, and eventually gain employment.
Each eligible client is paired with a qualified mentor from a related field. The clients will spend two hours job shadowing and 14 hours on job mentoring activities during the program.

Clients will:
  • Learn about the local business community and industries. Learn about licensing and certification requirements for regulated and non regulated fields and develop a realistic career plan
  • Enhance professional networking to increase their resources
  • Gain volunteer work experience in the relevant field
  • Learn about and engage in job shadowing
  • Be provided an opportunity to make qualified decisions about pursuing their chosen careers or in transferring their skills to other relevant occupations
  • Be given referrals and assistance to gain relevant employment.


Selection and Eligibility of Clients


To be accepted in the program clients must:

  • Be a professional or skilled in one of the suggested fields in their home country
  • Have a relevant degree or certification to work in the specific field
  • Have already initiated and/or completed the credential evaluation process
  • Have job search skills
  • Currently be unemployed or under-employed working less than 20 hours per week in an unrelated field
  • Have no Canadian work experience in their field
  • Be motivated and able to commit 16 hours of their time in job mentoring activities spread over eight weeks
  • Have at least an intermediate level of English proficiency
  • Be referred by a case manager to attend the program (if you do not have a case manager we can assist in arranging one for you).

Selection and Eligibility of Mentors


To be accepted in the program mentors must:

  • Be a qualified and experienced professional with experience in a suggest field
  • Have a license and/or certification to work in the industry
  • Participate voluntarily.
