PWS Networking Luncheon

The Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society, Vancouver Branch, hosted a special luncheon on Wednesday June 30, 2010 at its Offices on Main Street, to raise awareness of their Wage Subsidy Program among potential employers. The event included a presentation on the program; opportunities for employers to connect with Wage Subsidy staff and each other; and a complimentary lunch. Admission to the event was free. An employer in attendance shared with other participants that her company had previously partnered with us to hire a new employee, who is still with them almost two years later. Industries represented at the event included Accounting, Construction, Travel, Fashion, Financial Services, Communications, Food Services, Security, Automotive, Building Maintenance, Employment, and Printing.

It was a very exciting opportunity for employers to learn about this well established program, one of few in the Lower Mainland. The Wage Subsidy Program is an initiative that offers a financial incentive to employers, to hire eligible candidates and provide paid on-the-job work experience, with a view to long term employment.

The PICS Wage Subsidy Program has been in operation for 13 years. During this time we have assisted over 700 clients find employment in their chosen field, ranging from entry-level to highly skilled professional positions. Over 90% of these clients remain employed with the same employer three months after the subsidy period. The simplicity of the program makes it a cost effective source of human capital.
